We make all the marbled papers we use in bindings and conservation, by hand in house in the traditional method, with traditional patterns. This ensures that the quality is the highest possible and avoids the often terrible appearance of printed facsimile papers. Because of our experience making marbled papers, we are able to offer them for sale to people who whish to purchase bookcloth made in the traditional victorian style.
We will always use acid free papers, often pure cotton papers. We are use a wide range of long fiber papers, machine made papers and handmade or factory mould and deckle papers. We will only use the highest lightfast rated pigments and archival paints to make the marbled papers.
Papers can be supplied burnished or un-burnished, waxed or unwaxed with either beeswax or paraffin to suit requirements. Note that all waxed papers will be burnished as a matter of course.
For our conservation work, we are able to attempt to match the colour and style of pre existing marbled papers. Due to the nature of marbling however, it is completely impossible to get an exact one-to-one replica of any marbling.
Please get in touch if you wish us to make something to specification. We can make almost any historical pattern, using any colours you like. If you only require a very small amount for a single book project, then please let us know and we can usually sort something out at a reduced rate.
Please note that handmade materials are just that: handmade. They will not be perfectly machined with a flawless finish. Think of it almost like a piece of leather which, even being of the highest quality, still bears the marks of the animal from whence it came. You will not be disappointed with our papers, but please expect the character of a handmade item. See pictures of for details.
We aim to post all our marbled paper orders out within 24 hours of receipt of an order for pre made papers. Custom orders can take up to a week for shipment.
